Artist Statement
My practice revolves around theatrical narratives of the uncanny and their potential dimensional forms.
Masks create alternative realities where spectators confront the enigmatic nature of identity. In masked video performances, I challenge the usual gauge of humanity from associations with familiar faces or facial expressions to the focus of what a character possesses in their administration of motion, figurative form, and spirit. Within installations, I curate dimensions using spotlights and projection mapping to cast isolating and consuming shadows over masks and unhomely props. Manifesting the looming presence of darkness within traditional means of disguise i.e. the mask, the manipulation of silhouettes projects a further uncanny life beyond the material visibility of the works.
